The head of the Ministry of Defense attended the celebrations of the 16th Pomeranian Mechanized Division in Olsztyn.

Already 80 km of 2.5 metre high fences have been built; over 130 km of military entanglements have been laid. In parallel, a fence is also being built to ensure that animals are not harmed," said Mariusz Blaszczak, referring to actions taken on the border by the military, including soldiers from the 16th Pomeranian Mechanized Division. He added that "the first role is played by a battalion of sappers also supported by soldiers from engineering regiments of the Polish Army."

State of emergency and tense situation on the Polish border with Belarus

Fencing on the border with Belarus began to be installed at the end of August in the region of the village of Zubrzyca Wielka in Podlaskie Voivodeship. The installation is intended to prevent people from the Middle East brought to the Polish border by the Belarusian regime, which also prevents them from returning to Belarus.

The fence set up by the army consists of three layers of concertina razor wire, laid ring on ring. The poles that support the concertina are dug into the ground for over a meter. The fence is 2.5 meters high. Under the fence, on the outer side lie three-layer entanglements, which impede the approach to the fence. A 150-kilometer section is planned to be built in the first stage. Another 97 km long construction phase is also planned.

Since 2 September, a state of emergency has been in force in the border zone with Belarus, i.e. in parts of Podlaskie and Lubelskie Voivodeships. It covers 183 towns. It was introduced for 30 days by a decree of President Andrzej Duda, issued upon the motion of the Council of Ministers.
