Robert Francis Thomas Doe A British airman and fighter pilot, he served in the Royal Air Force during World War II, fighting in the Battle of Britain and during the Brimar Campaign. Born on 10 March 1920, he joined the Air Force in March 1938 and made his first flight in June of the same year. He was assigned to 234 Spitfire Squadron, where he became an ace of the air. He is considered to have scored his first victory in August 1940. He managed to shoot down two German Bf 110 messerschmitts, and then a Bf109 aircraft. On 27 September, he was assigned to 238 Squadron Hurricane, where he also achieved some success. On October 10, his plane was critically damaged in a battle over Warmwell, where he was wounded in both leg and arm, and crashed near Corfe Castle. After recuperating in hospital, he rejoined 238 Squadron a month after the incident.

In January 1941, his airplane crashed, boiling over the radiator fluid, as a result of engine seizure. After a hard landing and loss of health, the pilot underwent 22 operations.
